Arrive in Delhi & transfer to hotel.
Start the day with a visit to Old Delhi to see the historic Red Fort& the nearby Jama Masjid, the city’s most important and grandest mosque. Following this you can walk through the hustle and bustle of the Chandni Chowk markets. The 2nd half of the day will be spent exploring New Delhi which came into existence much later, and is also known as Lutyens Delhi, in the name of a British architect who was largely responsible in designing India Gate, The Presidential House, Secratariat, Parliament House and many other buildings in central Delhi. Visit the lotus Temple and then drive on to see the tallest tower in Delhi, known as Qutub Minar. Overnight at hotel.
Depart for Jaipur. Arrive in Jaipur and check into the hotel. Evening free for shopping. For dinner you can enjoy an excursion to Chowki Dhani for a taste of authentic Rajasthani cuisine. Overnight at hotel.
The beautiful city of Jaipur epitomizes the spirit of Rajputana. Popularly known as the Pink City because of the extensive use of the locally abundant pink plastered stone. Start the day with a visit to the Amber Fort Palace and enjoy a ride on the back of a decorated elephant to the top of the fort. Next stop will be the City Palace- a delightful blend of Mughal and traditional Rajasthani architecture followed by Jantar Mantar- a 18th century observatory. Your day ends with a visit to the Hawa Mahal- the ‘palace of winds’. Evening at leisure. Overnight at hotel.
Depart for Jaipur visiting Fatehpur Sikri en route, the now deserted city built by Emperor Akbar. Though the city took 15 years to build, it was abandoned after only 14 years because the water supply was unable to sustain the growing population. The surviving palace and mosque are a tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arrive in Agra and check into the hotel. Evening at leisure. Start the day with a visit to the Taj Mahal -The world famous mausoleum of Shah Jahan’s wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj has been aptly described by the great Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore as a teardrop on the face of time.
The next stop for the day will be the Red Fort- which is 2.5 km northwest of the Taj Mahal. This is referred to as the most important fort in India. All great Mughal Emperors such as Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jehangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb lived here. It is a perfect testament to the glory of the Mughal Empire. Now visit Sikandra, the tomb of Akbar the Great & the first monument in Agra built in white marble and red sandstone. The last monument for the day will be Etmad Ud Daulah a Mughal mausoleum often described as a 'Jewel box' & also referred to sometimes as the 'Baby Taj'. Overnight at hotel.
Leave Agra for Orchha by road. The medieval city of Orccha is situated on a seasonal island on the bank of the Betwa River & is home to a huge Palace Fort. Notable buildings include the Rajmandir & The Jahangir Mahal which is considered to be a singularly beautiful specimen of domestic Hindu architecture. Numerous cenotaphs or chhatris dot the vicinity of the fort and the Betwa river. Overnight at Orccha.
In the morning depart for Khajuraho. Arrive in Khajuraho and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
The next day indulge in a City tour of the temples of Khajuraho. Khajuraho was the capital of the Chandela kings and its temples were built in the short span of a hundred years, from 950-1050 AD. Most of them were destroyed by invaders. Adorned with exquisite sculpture, only 22 temples remain of the original 85. They are the strange works of a long dead people. Khajurahos temples are covered with hundreds of sculptured figures - a galaxy of gods and goddesses, beasts and serpents, and a multitude of erotic couples. The most famous are the Kandariya Mahadev, the Chaturbhuj, the Paraswanath and the Ghantai.
Depart for Varanasi by air & transfer to hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure. In the evening you can witness the Aarti ceremony at the Ghats.
Start the day at dawn by a visit to the magical Ghats. See the Bathing Ghats & the Cremation Ghats. Enjoy a boat ride on the river Ganges and walk through the narrow lanes of Varanasi. Later take an excursion to Sarnath, the site of the deer park where Gautama Buddha is said to have given his first sermon about the basic principles of Buddhism. It has been a premier centre for Buddhism & has a rich collection of ancient Buddhist relics & antiques comprising numerous Buddha & Bodhisattva images on display at the Archaeological Museum. Overnight at hotel.
Transfer to airport (Domestic) & flight to Delhi. Evening at leisure in Delhi & Overnight stay at hotel.
